Dr. Christine Botosan

Christine A. Botosan is the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Presidential Endowed Chair in Ethical Financial Reporting at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. She earned her Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Michigan (1995). Professor Botosan's research investigates factors that explain cross-firm differences in corporate reporting strategy and the effect of such differences on the financial markets including cost of equity capital.

Her paper entitled "Disclosure Level and the Cost of Equity Capital" was awarded the 1996 American Accounting Association Competitive Manuscript Award and the 2001 American Accounting Association Notable Contributions to Accounting Literature Award. Dr. Botosan was also a co-recipient of the 2006 Accounting Horizon's Best Paper Award. Dr. Botosan's research has been published in the Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, the Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, Accounting Horizons, the Financial Accounting Standards Board Research Supplement, Valuation Issues and the Nebraska Law Review. She serves on the editorial board of The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research and Accounting Horizons. Dr. Botosan teaches financial accounting electives at the Undergraduate and Masters levels as well as in the Ph.D. program. Over the years she has been the recipient of several awards for teaching excellence including the 2001 Brady Superior Teaching Award. Dr. Botosan is the Director of the School of Accounting and Information Systems Ph.D. program.
